I think I will have to say, Jane Austen. I even loved reading her unfinished work. 
I came to Jane late in life.......only 4 years ago.......and I have already started re-reading her work.
Oh, wait, I change my mind......LM Montgomery.....No, make it Jane. Yeah, I will stick with Jane.

Melissa Wiley. It used to be Laura Ingalls Wilder and I wouldn't even consider reading the prequels. Then...well...the author of the prequels wrote and offered to write the foreword to my book. At first, I turned her down. But then the HOly Spirit suggested I read her books before declining. So, I swallowed my preconceived notion and...I did and I found that I liked them--no, loved them--even more than the LIW ones. They were more complex, the characters and plot even better developed and the writng more beautiful. So, there you go; Laura Ingalls Wilder until about five years a ago. And then, Melissa Wiley!

Dear Chari,
I am going to have to ditto you even to the indecision.
I grew up on LM Montgomery -- my mum's a Canadian and my grandparents sent me LMM's books as birthday and Christmas presents since they weren't available back then in the US -- and then I discovered Jane Austen as a teenager and have reread countless times. Both authors.
There has to be a niche there somewhere for CS Lewis and Narnia though. Every time I have a spiritual issue going on in my life I can usually think of a parallel somewhere in the Narnia books. Can I have different favorites for different parts of my brain???

Ugh! Too tough! I think if I have to choose it would probably be Elizabeth Goudge.

I don't know......they are too many wonderful authors whom I love!
Can't decide.... although it will be fun to think about so many books which I have enjoyed throughout the years.

I'm with Kathryn, I would vote for Elizabeth Goudge at this point in my life. (With C.S. Lewis coming in a close second!)

I'm ashamed to admit I've never read any Elizabeth Goudge. Any particular recommendations, Kathryn?
My all-time favorite author is Willa Cather. I've read "Death Comes to the Archbishop" so many times that I've lost count.
