Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Yeah I'm so glad you're doing this book. I just ordered this book yesterday from AllCatholicBooks.com and was hoping someon would be around to "talk to" about the book.

Blessings all

I'm in! I'm almost finished reading the book, but I'll probably just re-read it again along with everyone. I'm certain a second reading (and your perspectives) will give me different insights. It's already provided reassurance for some of my current homeschooling anxieties and inspired a more spiritual perspective to homeschooling. There were a couple sections that left me with questions, though. Hopefully hearing what everyone else has to say about these sections will clear away some of my remaining questions. Thanks for starting this.

I ordered the book last week and hopefully it will come by the beginning of June-- if not, I'll read hard in order to catch up. Looking forward to it!

My book is on loan - interstate! I found it to be encouraging of contemplation and reflection, so perhaps I can participate in the discussion without the book to hand?

My book is on loan, too, Leonie! I read it a couple of months ago, but would still love to participate in the discussion.

I've started reading this -- anyone else started yet?

I got through the first half. I have to say I was a bit disappointed with it so far as she seems to quote John Holt's books alot with very little of her own input. Also, reading John Holt's original, rather than excerpts, may prove more helpful to me as I try to get my hands around defining and practicing "unschooling".

She has one child she has unschooled thru 7th grade (agewise or academically?) so I find it a bit hard to take her as a credible source or expert on unschooling.

I'm "fixin" to start the "can Catholics be unschoolers" section, so hopefully it will get better.

Anyone else have an opinion?

Just my two cents!

Blessings

Is everybody ready? Mary, I want to talk with you but I hesitate to do so until everybody has books, lest I infuluence others' opinions in advance of their reading.

Okay, I confess, I'm still finishing two of Christine Field's books Help for the Harried Homeschooler and Life Skills for Kids and I have my eye on my brand new copy of David Issacs book Character Building and I don't think I can resist it. I'll be reading your comments though on the Homeschooling with Gentleness and will pick up my copy later. Looking forward to your discussions!

My copy was shipping on June 1st, so I should receive it soon. I also don't mind if you start before I read it.
