Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have a good recommendation: the Mrs Christie series by D.E. Stevenson.
There are four books in the series
-Mrs Tim Christie
-Mrs Christie carries on
-Mrs Christie finds a job
-Mrs Christie flies home

They are basically the journal of a Mrs Christie, the wife of a Tim Christie, an officer in the British Army. She decides to keep a journal while she is separated from her husband so that he can know what has happened in her life during his absence.
The books are not deep reading. But they are so entertaining! Her descriptions and observations of people are so funny and the predicaments she gets into... The first book takes place right before WWII, the second during and the last two inmediately after.
So if you need some light reading try these...

I just ordered the first one through my library. Thank you for the suggestions. It is always so fun to find new reads! [=D>]

Natalia,
Have you read any other of D.E. Stevenson's works?
She seems to be quite the prolific writer. My library search came up with eight pages of results for her. I have never read any of her books.

Amie,
No I just discovered her. I noticed that a couple of her books ( Miss Buncle's Book and Miss Buncle Married) are on the Homeschoolng with Gentleness booklist. So I might tried those next.

Blessings,

Natalia

Ok, I have barely begun since getting it home last night. I do love all that I read so far. Thank you again so much for the recommendation. I am also reading "The Egg and I" that someone recommended on here. (I think)

Also by Betty MacDonald of "Egg" fame is "Onions in the Stew", about her life with her husband and two teenage daughters on an island off of the Washington State. It is a fun summer read!

Another enjoyable edition of "lite fare" is "Make a Joyful Noise", by....blanking out on the author, but it's a woman, about growing up with her four brothers and sisters/extended family in the North East. Her father was rector of Mount Holyoke College, later head of religion at Princeton. It's a funny book, perfect summer reading.

Last but not least, for those seeking inspiration for overseas travel is the book "Bedlam in the Back Seat" -also by the same authoress, I believe, and very humorous. About her own family of four and their six-month European adventure. I've chuckled thru this one a couple of times!
