Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My daughter is 7 and in 1st grade Seton at home.
We have been trying to decide if she has some kind of learning disability or is "normally" behind.

She was enrolled in Kindergarten and was at the bottom of her class, although she was one of the oldest, at 6. They wouldn't test her in Kindergarten and didn't think there was anything significant to worry about.

Our biggest struggle this year has been with letter and number reversals - mostly when she writes (and a few when she reads) and a seeming inability to memorize anything (addition and subtraction facts, her religion lesson, etc - she can say something 10 times in a row and won't remember what she said 10 seconds later).

She forms her circles clockwise, even if that means starting at the bottom, as in letter C. She has trouble writing b, d, g, j, p, and q because she makes a circle (backwards) and then tries to figure out which side the line goes on (or which way it scoops). I noticed her having trouble today with the letter X. She wants to cross from top to bottom (L-R) and then bottom to top (L-R, again). She also makes her K and Y funny and often reverses Z and 2 (as well as 3, 6, 7, and 9).

Our biggest struggle in reading (whether we're doing phonics or sight words) is distinguishing between b and d. Is all this still "normal" at her age (7 1/2)?

FYI: We have had some discipline issues where she "doesn't know" anything and won't do her work. We've been working through that and I'm often surprised at the things that she really does know, but these issues that I've mentioned are pretty consistent.
