Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I've been meaning to post about this for quite some time now and keep forgetting!

A Family Journey With Jesus Through Lent, by Angela Burrin is a book that I used last year during Lent and will use again this year with my children. Each day of Lent has two stories, a memory verse, and a prayer. The stories tell about Jesus' life and ministry. For instance, the story for Ash Wednesday is about Jesus' baptism. The first story is told from the point of view of a child who is witnessing the event. The second story is written with Jesus speaking in the first person. The writer expands on Jesus' messages for us by having Jesus tell us the story from his point of view. I hope this sounds right - it's done well and in a way that makes the message clear for children.

There are also ideas for family activities and crafts in the back of the book.

From the website...

Praying as a family begins here! A Family Journey with Jesus through Lent provides the perfect format for family prayer for each day of Lent. Hebrew children from Capernaum, Nazareth, Cana, and Jerusalem narrate the stories in a way that makes Jesus' parables, miracles, and teachings come alive. Every story contains interesting historical details to show what life was like in Jesus' time. At the end of each gospel scene, Jesus speaks lovingly and personally to the children about the significance of the story that was just shared. Suggestions for Lenten and Holy Week activities are also featured, along with original artwork. This is a book families will enjoy year after year!

Anyway, the kids really enjoyed these stories and I think that they got a lot out of them. No financial interests here whatsoever. Hope someone finds it useful!

I bought this book yesterday. It looks perfect for our Lenten journey. I was so happy to see someone recommends it.

I bought this on sale last year after Easter at our Catholic bookstore and planned on using it this year. I'm glad you recommended it too. Thanks.

I am bumping up this topic, because I have been eyeing this book and wanted to hear some feedback, if you liked the book and would use it again. Also, which age group would it interest?
thanks!

Stephanie~
My girls love it! It's not the most sophisticated writing and is a bit "hokey", but it serves it's purpose. My girls really like hearing about how "kids/people" lived during that time, so I think the book does a good job showing that. And, the discussion questions and prayer starter (not sure if that's what they're called, but you get the idea) led us to good conversation usually.   It covers Jesus life of ministry very completely!

We used this last year and loved it! I agree that it can be a bit hokey, but it does lead to wonderful conversation.

My children and I loved this book. We got it last year, and I'm looking forward to use it again. Last year, my childrens ages were 6, 5, 4, 2 and 1 year old. The older one's got the most out of it, but the 4 and 2 year old sat through the readings pretty well.

I just bought this yesterday. I really think they will enjoy it. The activity list is lacking, but the reading and discussion questions look good.
