Do your sons wear white for First Holy Communion or do you have them wear a regular suit?
My oldest (now 11) wore a light beige suit with a white shirt and white embossed tie. He also wore beige bucks.
My middle son makes his FHC in May and I am not sure if we should have him wear that same suit (if it fits, haven't checked yet) or if we should get him a traditional white suit.
(I should add here, my son at age 7 was still on the small side - the smallest white suit we could find, a 6, was too big. So we opted for the Easter suit which fit much better. CJ is also smaller than a size 6, so I anticipate a similar dilemma.  )
I'd like to know what others have done for (or are planning for) their son's attire on this day. I am trying to think about this now, because I know May will rush up on me!

Our parish wants the boys to wear khaki pants, a white dress shirt, navy blazer and white tie. We found a nice white tie with a white embossed chalice and wheat/grapes on it and a gold chalice tie clip. Oh, and we added a small white rose boutineire (I have NO IDEA how to spell that!!)
This will be our third FHC at this parish. There have been some boys in the past in navy suits. Only our Hispanic families have kept up the tradition of white suits. It's really too bad, because boys wear khakis and navy blazers to anything formal and should have something more for FHC. My boys, however, would be mortified to stand out from the group.

My boys wear what Molly's boys wear. I make a big deal about getting their very *own* of everything, which is rather comical given the number of boys we have! And, yes they pretty much wear blue blazers and khaki pants to everything, but with the exception of Nicholas, none of them wear that before they make their FHC. What I mean is, I dress them in little boy dress clothes for events in their lives prior to FHC and then the blazer/khakis become a rite of passage. Nicholas is the exception because he's realy big; he's the fifth boy and I *have* all these blazers and khakis in his size (Michael's FHC clothes fit Nick when he was four)and I'm tired  .

dawn, does your parish have a dress code? ours suggested dark or khaki pants, white shirt, tie, and jacket optional. would your son be the only one in a white suit? if so, would make him feel special or odd, kwim? i have never seen the white suit sold here in stores so the dark suit is the only real option.

Mary, no dress code. When my oldest made his FHC we were at our old parish. He and one other boy wore khakis and blazers. Everyone else wore white! But, he's the type of kid that it never even occured to him he was in the minority! 
I have not seen a FHC at our new parish ("new" as in we've been there two years) and so far none of the mothers have been chatting about it. I'm such a planner!
My middle son is the one who would *not* want to be different.  He notices those kinds of things. But, all that said, he tried on the khaki suit this morning, and it fit beautifully! The white shirt and tie, too. So I think we will go with that. I think I just wanted to hear that it was OK not to do white.

When my son made his FHC, he did it individually at a church that was not our home parish. We were in the middle of moving, and it was a bit of a mess. Having said that, he wore a blue suit, with a white tie. I don't really care for the white suits on boys, and it was a rite of passage for him to have a suit to wear on other occasions.

Our boys wore their church clothes (button down ls shirts, belts, nice pants, dk socks, dress shoes) with the addition of a tie with a communion pin. The tie was a rite of passage thing similar to Elizabeth's boy's outfits.

No dress code here.. everything from slacks with white shirt to suits..
and what my son wore (having just seen his sister get a special WHITE dress) was a white dinner jacket with black pants.. a white shirt and he had on a navy and white tie.
The only thing I had to buy was the jacket (ebay!) the rest was standard dress clothes here.
I think all the boys wore ties.. his class was 2 girls and 7 boys. It was the funniest thing.. the boys were all checking out each others ties and seeing who had clip on ties and who had tied on ones not in a condemning way (no one thought one or the other was "better")

My son wore what the boys I went to school with wore when they made their First Communion: white shirt, blue tie, navy blue pants, black shoes. (And, oy, did we have trouble keeping that tie on him!) This has somehow been etched in my brain as What Should Be Worn For First Communion.

My boys requested white suits for FHC (the two that have already received) but we were not doing it with a group so there wasn't a dress code. For son #1, we could not find a white suit, so we got a navy blue suit(blue for Our Lady) with tie. He began wearing this to every Mass (including the tie) on his own. The rest of the boys simply followed suit and since we had passed down suits, they were wearing suits from very early. We found a white suit for boy # 2 and got it with the plan for it to become the heirloom FHC attire. But we had established the tradition of wearing the FHC suit to Mass for the first week at least - and I'm still working on getting out the Al clay and the grass stains. ( My boys also wrestle in their Sunday best after Mass). I like having something very special - but white was not terribly practical - it would have been stained even without the wrestling. I'm not sure what we will do next time. It may depend on whether or not I can get out the stains - and what next boy requests, if anything.

Janet.. my boys do the same with playing after Mass.. it's another reason why white jacket with black pants worked so well.. I could snag the jacket as soon as pictures were over.. and we do the same with letting them wear their special outfit for a couple weeks.

At our parish, our eldest son and Godson were the ONLY ones to wear white! I think I purchased the (hard to find size 8 slim) suit on eBay and I found the goofy white alligator (gasp!) shoes - the only ones I could find in his size in white at Burlington coat factory.
Our sweet Godson wore a blue dress shirt, though, for Our Lady.
For our second son, he borrowed our Godson's suit because his brother's suit was too big, but he had to wear black shoes, as I was not about to purchase a second pair of the white ones . He was the ONLY boy to wear a white suit. Usually that would have bothered this child, but I count that among the graces of that day.
