Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I just posted ideas for celebrating the feast of St. Anthony the Great next week (January 17). The post includes reading suggestions, a craft (with a download) and copywork ideas.

Great craft and thanks for the reminder -- my dh has a real fondness for the Eastern saints and this will help us surprise him with an awesome craft and overall day!

Well, Katherine, you beat me to it - I was just going to post a brainstorming thread along this same line - "Hermit Saints Feast Days" (since St. Paul the Hermit is Jan.15).

Both lived to be over 100 years old - good time to think about longevity of life and pray for a long happy life for those we love.

Practice being a hermit for a day? Stay in their rooms and eat bread and water?

Or re-enact this meeting between St. Paul and St. Anthony - breaking apart the bread as mentioned here from the Golden Legend.

There is a suggestion in Monica McConkey's Treasure Chest of Traditions for Catholic Families book to make baskets on St. Anthony's feast day since he is the patron of basket weavers. (And St. Paul is also listed as a patron of weavers.)

Very easy paper basket w/ template

A couple slightly more complicated options
-woven paper basket
-realistic paper basket variation from Family Fun
-one using paper twist and a brown paper bag

If you don't think even the simple basket is a possibility there is always the basic flat
paper mat weaving

Great blog post, BTW, Katherine.

Any other ideas anyone?
