One of the student aids in the 4th grade CCD class has been assigned to find a craft idea. The teacher is covering the Seven Sacraments in one lesson.  I have never worked with this age group. Do any of you lovely ladies have a craft idea?

Oh, Carol, this is the age of my class!
Do you need a craft for each sacrament? A sacro-combo?  Something completely different?

MacBeth,
I am not the teacher of this class. I was just approached by the student helper who has been assigned the task of finding a craft for sacraments. I asked which sacrament and she told me all of them. I was shocked.  I have taught so many different levels, and I could not imagine covering all seven sacraments in one lesson.
But that is what they need. Any great ideas?

I might do a poster in multi-media (off the top of my head):
Baptism: A small shell over a cut-out font.
Penance: A cut out of a priest's stole (maybe out of fabric?) with a sealing wax "seal" of confession on a ribbon over it.
Eucharist: Tabernacle doors that open to reveal the Host
Confirmation: Dove/Fire
Marriage: Rings
Holy Orders: Vestments (fabric again?) and chalice
Last Rites: ??
Any other ideas?

MacBeth, I like that idea. Our oldest ds did a simular project when he was working on his Ad Altare Dei for scouts. It was a felt banner. I still have it here in the house.

I did a mobile with the name of each sacrement and then pictures to symbolize each hanging from the sacrement.

I'm resurrecting this topic to ask for more sacrament craft ideas (not necessarily all together). My dd is in 4th grade and we just did a one-chapter overview of all 7 sacraments  . Methinks more study is needed!

I am glad Nancy is bumping this - I would like more ideas too. (Symbols - are there any ready-made online?)
We are making a card for the seminarian at our church; he makes his diaconate ordination next week. (I'm not sure that's spelled correctly.) I thought this was a perfect time to talk about sacraments as my 7yo makes First Penance that same weekend!

I have several images I can scan and upload if there is interest...I just found one this week from a book that combines all seven sacraments that I really like.

Thank you for all those links, Jenn! I almost bought a CD-Rom of Christian symbols clip art the other day but hesistated. I see there are plenty of things online!  I would love to see the image that combines the seven sacraments, Jenn, if it is not too much trouble to scan and upload. 
I love the round stained glass symbols from the Lovasik book. I was thinking of trying to replicate them in some way. For the card, we have a blank photo card ... maybe a circle in the center with the symbol for holy orders and then tissue all around for the stained glass effect - all encased in clear contact paper.
For home, I'd like to do a poster as MacBeth suggests or a mobile as LeeAnn suggests. Though maybe this would make a fun lapbook ...

Carole, I don't mean to keep hijacking your thread!  But I wanted to say that CHC has a set of Sacrament Prints that look beautiful. These could be used for a small notebook or posters - a set of 3, one for each type of sacrament (Initiation, Healing and Vocation/Service).

Dawn, I don't mind at all! I am gaining a wealth of information here.
Guess what? I have those sacrament prints. A friend of the family gave those to the children one year for Christmas. They are beautiful prints.

I do have a few suggestions for books and cds to get, Dawn. I'll post that later. Sorry these took so long to scan. Dh was home and using the computer most of yesterday.
I found this one book at a book sale that I have only read a bit, but I love the themes. The author promotes the idea of concentric circles with Christ at the center. The Mass is the first circle, the Sacraments the second circle, the Divine Office the third circle and the Liturgical Year the fourth. Each circle has various symbols. Here is the Sacraments:
Christ at center, rays radiate out to us from him. Baptism, candle and white robe; confiramtion, Holy Spirit in form of dove; Eucharist, host and chalice, penance, keys for binding and loosing; last annointing, olive branch and vessel; holy orders, priestly vestments and candle of fealty; matrimoney, Chi-Rho, sign for Christ, uniting two rings.

Life Sanctified
Christ who is the source of all sanctity normally dispenses Hi graces to us through the sacraments. His Chi-Rho symbol, therefore, occupies a central position in this illustration. The symbols for the sacraments of Holy Orders and Matrimony are within the inner circle near the source of the Christ-life, for these sacraments have been instituted primarily to perpetuate, safeguard, and foster, each in its own way, the supernatural and natural life of man, and thus have become the foundation stones of the Church and the home.
In the symbol for Holy Orders, the fiery tongue signifies ordination (the descent of the Holy Ghost); the chalice signifies the holy sacrifice of the Mass; and the stole, priestly power. In Matrimony, the two rings closely interlocked about eh Chi-Rho indicate the indissolubility of the sacrament and also the fact that in marriage the contracting parties have entered into a closer union with Christ.
In the outer circle are the sacraments necessary for all Christians: Baptism gives us supernatural life (the fish is a symbol of the soul, the candle of life-in-Christ; Confirmation brings this life to adult status and makes us soldiers of Christ (the insignia are the sword and the shield); Holy Eucharist as sacrifice (Holy Mass) and sacrificial meal (Holy Communion), has the highest position because it it eh greatest and holiest of all the sacraments toward which all the others tend as to their goal and end; Penance reunites us to fellowship with Christ whenever sin has destroyed our union with Him (the keys suggest the binding and loosing power of the sacrament and the scourge denotes penance); Extreme Unction anoints and strengthens us for our passage into the fellowship of the saints in heaven (indicated by the oil-stock and the olive branch, a sign of victory.
The symbols for the different sacraments are linked together by those of the four ember seasons; flowers for spring, spikes of grain for summer, grapes for autumn, and the olive branch for winter.
