Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Happy feast day to all the Lucys out there!

I wanted to post a website that has interesting info and ideas for Lucia day. This is the website of the author of the book Lucia Morning in Sweden. It has a few ideas, a place to haer the St. Lucy song, etc. It also explains how Lucy, an Italian saint, became the patron saint of Sweden.

Enjoy! Off to make my buns!
God bless
Margot

P.S. Sorry for those of you making files and planning ahead and such if this is posted too late. This is the first day I have had time at the computer for a while.

I'm behind, too. My computer time has been limited this Advent...so all my best-laid plans.

I did get up a St. Lucy post on "O Night Divine" which also includes the site Margot mentions above. The book is so good. That book and Lissa's "Hanna's Christmas" are the ones we're reading.

What a mess! Every year dd dresses up as santa lucia and takes buns to the priests.

yesterday we met with a bunch of friends to do lucia crafts- one friend owns a bakery and was going to bring the dough. Guess who couldnt come at the last minute.

i had no groceries and no car and cant walk to the store 'cause i start contracting fiercly.

So i told dd i would see what i could do when daddy got home.

So we rummage through the advent box and dress ups- guess who has totally out grown her crown and dress?

dd goes to be sobbing i stay up sewing a new crown.

It is so cute! Imagine a large felt green hair scrunching with 4 white felt candles ( sewn flat with four rows of zigzags to stablize) with sparkily yellow felt flames all cut with pinker scissors. the candles are swen on the outside of the "wreath" with little red bows in between the candles.

we are still in boxes so i had to sew on the floor with my knee on the peddle!

I got done about the time daddy got home from work and shopping - after 10 and after helping him put groceries away he sent me to bed. I couldnt stay up any more to try to make buns.

dd woke up and loved her crown (worn with red snuggly pj's)- we took daddy coffee sans buns in bed.

she was still really upset about not going to church but i told her when we go tommorrow to the parish for her atruim we could dress up and take buns- betterlate than never i guess We found a long sleeve red shirt and red leggings that she can squeeze into under a white slip in her dressup. She is still grumpy but is accepting the compromise.

Someone take after her mom-everything has to be just right or the gumpies set in

we love that book by the way they got it on lucia day last year. this year they got the cd and enjoyed it as well.

hope you have a happy lucia day- lights some candles, eat something made with wheat- learn some italian and swedish words!

Doesn't sound like a mess - sounds heroic! I was thinking all day of posting that if you have basketball practice followed by dance and music lessons . . . or you're having contractions (!) . . . and on and on . . . you can get refrigerated bread stick "fixins" and roll them out a little longer and fashion them into the shape of the Lucia bun with the raisin at the curled end. Great short cut substitute
