There are so many rich and wonderful prayers out there, which prayers and devotions have you chosen? We have our general daily routine but sometimes I feel like there are so many other prayers I'd like the children to know too! Has anyone done a few rotations of various prayers throughout the week? Wondering how that would work.
What about prayers books for your children? I feel like their prayers would come more alive and meaningful if they had their own family prayer books, maybe in binders/page protector format, perhaps smaller size if that exists.

Hi Julie!
I can tell you our nighttime prayer routine. It has evolved over the years as more of our children have been old enough to participate.
We begin with the Rosary (led by Daddy), and then each child leads a special prayer in this order:
Margaret, The Prayer to St. Michael
Agnes, The Memorare
Marie, The Guardian Angel Prayer
Patrick, Now I lay me down to sleep
Mom, Prayer for Papa (my father--"Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord")
Theresa, prayers for Our Holy Father the Pope and for the repose of Pope John Paul II
Throughout the day, we try to say specific prayers at certain times--Morning Offering at the outset, Angelus at Noon, Divine Mercy Chaplet at 3 pm, and grace before meals.
This time of year, we add our "Advent Festivities" at night (yes, that's what the kids nicknamed it years ago!), and we are saying the Christmas Novena from now until December 25th.

We do similar! I like the idea of certain children leading certain prayers! Thanks for the link to the blog, will have to check that out!

I should add that the children are so conditioned to go to sleep after prayers that they cannot seem to settle down without it. We were running very late tonight, and I let the older girls lead an abbreviated version of the nightly ritual. What a disaster. Patrick was down about half a dozen times with two year old Catherine at his heels. It was not until dh returned home and began the Rosary that the entire crew realized bed time had indeed come!

We do alot like Alices' family. The three constants are Morning Offering, noon Angelus, and nightly Rosary, and the table blessing before each meal. Dad offers a spontaneous prayer after our supper blessing, addressing whatever might be going on in our lives at that time
After our morning offering we pray the St. Michael prayer and 3 Hail Mary's (for purity of mind, body, and soul) After family Rosary we pray the Memorare, Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be.
Some are seasonal too, we do some regular novenas, St. Joseph in March, St. Ann and Joachim in July, Divine Mercy during Easter, etc..

We say a simple Morning Offering - "Oh Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer you all my thoughts, words, actions, and sufferings of this day. I offer them to please you, to honor you, and to make up for my sins. Sweet Mother Mary keep me in your care." Amen. Some are more complicated but this makes it so even my littlest ones have it memorized easily.

OK, I blush
I've never said a rosary with my dc. We did single decades during the last Lent but I've never dared try a whole rosary. I can just *imagine* the wriggles, the messing around -- it's bad enough with our current night time routine of a bit of spontaneous prayer and invocation of our patron saints.
Sooo -- advice please! When do you say it (ie after supper, after bath, whatever)? Where? How do you help everyone concentrate? Does each child hold his own rosary or do you use one of those large family ones? Sitting or kneeling? Anything to focus on? (Candle, icon, etc.) What do the very littles do?
Sorry for all the questions, but I'm just trying to envisage when and how the best way to do it would be.
My dc are 6, 4 and 2 and the eldest would be ok but the younger 2 would struggle. But I'm very eager to give it a go!

Thank you so much for mentioning my post. I'm still trying to follow that ideal but the notebook has surely helped.

My MIL had this rule, the number of decade a child should be able to sit through would correspond to their age. So my children are 2 and 4, so one would sit through two decades, while the other is insistent on saying four decades with us. Now the two year old definition of being with us through two decades is mainly be in the same room, but by three, the child would be in the same room for three decades but might only lead one.
As for keeping the focus, what has worked is changing a little something while we say the rosary. Sometimes, it's a candle. Sometimes it's a CD. Sometimes, it's coloring pages. Sometimes it's a new rosary. Sometimes we make paper rosary beads that the child puts down as he says one Hail Mary. I've even use silk roses before to "change" things. Sometimes, I change the painting (calendar), statue, devotional over the altar. Maybe chant the rosary. Maybe sing it. Anything to keep it fresh. Sometimes, I would introduce & discuss a new "dimension" to the devotion. Gosh.. I've done so many changes but it has been worth every second of it. I'm hoping more experienced moms would contribute.
