Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have wanted a manger for a few years now, and a family friend has offered to make us one!

Borrowing from an idea offered by Chari a few years ago, I want to set an empty manger in our house during advent, with a basket of "hay" nearby. As we prepare for Christ's birth, my children can prepare the manger with a handful of hay each time I observe them behaving a way that is pleasing to God.

So my question, does anyone have a manger in their homes? Did you make it? What does it look like? I think I'd like something that actually looks like a real manger, as opposed to a baby bed. Any suggestions, Blog photos, articles???
Thank you!

We found little wooden Cradle kits on the toy isle at the Dollar Tree. Each of my sons made their own manger for baby Jesus. I shred yellow paper to make a basket of hay that sits next to the mangers. They earn the hay with acts of kindness, it is a wonderful activity that they look forward to!

We also only have a very small one that we made from craft sticks. A larger version like you describe, Shawna, sounds really neat.

We have a small manger that we bought. It is pictured on my blog, under the current post. We use yellow yarn instead of straw.

Here is a picture of our Manger we just purchased yesterday. It is absolutely beautiful. It is made by Bethlehem Carvers from the Holy Land.

Here is a link to it from my blog.

God bless. Ruth
