Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

from Our Sunday Visitor. Check out the link here:
Children's Offering Envelopes

What do you think about this? Would it be a "doable" thing for most moderately sized to bigger families? Does anyone use these?

Check out the pdf file for a very nice informational flyer about them to see the details. It looks like a nice idea but I wonder...is it practical?

I'm impressed by the 'patron saints' envelopes most of all.

These are really lovely, Amie.

We have in the past made our own children's offering envelopes. We made them at Easter and I planned to do them again this Christmas season. I just bought little plain white envelopes and some religous stickers and then let the boys decorate them.

um.. okay. I don't get this.
We always throw them in the trash.
What's wrong with putting funds directly in the basket??
We also don't keep a tally of what we give as we feel we should simply give as and whenever we can. (Although I know some do for tax reasons.)

It seems like the cost of the boxes of envelops is a waste of parish funds? I think more end up in the trash than in the basket?

Now please don't think I look negatively on those who use them, because I don't. I just am baffled by why?

For my boys it's like giving a gift to God during special seasons of the Church. They don't write their names on them, but they do enjoy decorating them and they *love* adding their gifts to the basket.

Martha,
The only reasons why that I can think of would be that it makes the giving feel more official. And that it is a handy place to put the money as you build up through the week...feel like once it goes in you can't take it back out.

I like the idea of making them yourself with stickers though a whole lot....more practical and more personal...

Why envelopes?

We get paid twice a month, so the parish envelopes go on top of the stack of the "bills to be paid". The check to church is the first I write, and it's the amount we've pledged to give. If I wrote the check last, or just waited to see what cash we had on hand on Sunday, I don't think it would be near the same amount. So the envelopes help us with disciplined giving, and to give God the first-fruits of our labors, not what is left over.
(And it does help at tax time!)
