In years past, we have always made our Christmas cards. I would love to keep up this lovely tradition, but I am low on creativity, budget and time this season. Anyone have any clever ideas for lovely, simple and true to the season Christmas Cards I can make with my small crew?

Do you have any gift cards from previous years? You could cut the front off if they have religious themes and use them to paste on the front of your cards.

Go to your local paper printery and ask for any off cuts to make the cards from. Here I can rummage in the box and take what's there for free, some weeks are better than others.

Something very achievable for little ones.

Alternatively do you have a printer? Do a google search in 'images' find pictures you like and print them out onto 1/4 of the page and fold.

Since you mentioned having made your own cards in the past, I'm wondering what techniques you have done so I'm not suggesting something you have done or are already familiar with. I have made my own cards as well for the last 12 years or so - mostly doing rubber stamping. It can be very simple - a simple image, a word/saying stamped below on nice paper.

Something else we did one year was have the kids do linoleum block carving. I did use the linoleum blocks, but I've heard of using a piece of styrofoam meat tray as a carving surface for kids as well. Then you brayer over it with paint and press on front of card. A sample of the children's artwork reproduced! At the time the kids were 11, 8, & 4. One carved a star, one an angel, and the youngest (with help) a stick baby in manger. I can scan a copy and post if interested.

This year I'm going to do it with stamps - but not rubber stamps. I think this is a simple yet hopefully elegant idea. I'm collecting old Christmas Madonna postage stamps (from past stamp collection with an overabundance of Christmas stamps - they can also be purchased really cheap from a stamp collecting store). I'm going to mount one on a square of some metallic paper slightly larger than the stamp and glue to the front of a card. Then stamp some simple word or saying underneath in gold or silver. Really plain and simple.

One year we stamped a pine bough across the top of the card and "hung" a real ornament from it. Like one of these 49 cent ones from Autom. Then the receiver could remove it and hang on their own tree.

Another ornament one I did was to attach a crochet snowflake to the front of a card like this. I didn't crochet my own but bought them from Lillian Vernon. My wasn't glued on though - so it could be removed and used on a tree. The card said something about how God made each snowflake unique, just like them.

Just some thoughts. If I think of others I'll post late.

for extra cheap and easy...my mom always had me draw a picture then she copied it on red and green paper.

My relatives still have some of my drawings...

my printer has a copy function but it is pretty cheep to go to the copy store- 6 cents a card or so.

black crayon and white paper works best.

after they are copied on colored paper the kids can add stickers or glitter glue if desired.

you could do a "quilt style" where each dc colors/draws on a section so they each get included.
