Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

OK. I'll admit it. I bought this Lego Advent Calendar for my LEGO maniac. He can't ever wait for anything, so I figure this might help curb his impatience. Or it might drive him (and me) crazy.

BUT, that's not what this post is about!!! To compensate for buying such a frivolous item, I bought this unbelievably beautiful advent calendar of the MET Museum Neapolitan Christmas Tree! It is a photo of the Tree, and each day you open a character from the scene paired with a fact about the tree. The nativity scene is a pop-out along the bottom. If you have never seen this tree, you are missing one of the most amazing Advent displays in the secular world--but now you can have it in your home . The Met sets up the tree every November using the 57 foot-high angels, villagers, etc. When you see the tree (hey, visit NY just to see this tree! Forget Rockefeller Center! Forget Radio City Music Hall!!!), you will notice that EVERY character in the display is focused on the Creche in the center.

Whew.

Seriously. This calendar is lovely, and the price is right. It's better, in fact, if you are a member.

Thanks, MacBeth, I just ordered mine. I really hope it gets here in time. But if not, I'm sure we'll probably celebrate Advent again some time.

Looks beautiful!

Thanks for the link! It's really beautiful. I would love to see the one at the Met someday.

We got the Advent Nativity Calendar here, and it is simply beautiful. My son loved it so much last year, and has been asking to do it again.

Thank you for posting such a beautiful advent calendar! I was just looking (and shaking my head in amazement) at this one at FAO -- just beautiful for anyone with stacks of money to burn -- we'll stick with a paper one this year;)

Tracy - does this calendar go on the wall or on a table/mantel?

Thanks

Yowzaa! And I was feeling guilty for splurging on the paper one!

MacBeth - this calendar is beautiful! Is it made out of sturdy cardstock? Is it a single year item or can it stand up to a few years of use? I presume it can stand on a piano or mantel?

Thanks

Marilyn,
It's very sturdy, made of heavy card board
, and will definitely last a few years...more with care. It comes in a clear plastic envelope for storage, too. It opens up to stand. I think I'll put it on our piano, as our mantel tends to get sooty .

Note to self: nothing is ever gained by waiting to make an amazon purchase. This is now outrageously expensive and only available from third party sellers (and not eligible for amazon prime). I was all set to send it to all my godchildren . Bummed, I am.

Thank you, MacBeth. I have bookmarked this for next year. It's beautiful! I had thoughts of trying to buy it *expressed*, but it's just too much money for this year. It's in my 2007 folder for next Christmas though!
