Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We're all wary of buying one more book that may sit on the shelves or be to complicated to use regularly. That's why I'm coming to you to find out if anyone has used this new book.

I'm tempted....

Haven't used it or seen it. But now I'm tempted too!

Thanks Gwen.

Gwen,

We have this book on order, though I have not seen it myself in person. It came highly recommended to my husband by a veteran homeschooling mom in our area.
It is apparently Aquinas' methods of memorization that can be applied to any element of our Faith (beatitudes, fruits and gifts of the Holy Spirit, precepts of Church etc)and beyond into ordinary life. Looking forward to seeing it myself...

I did a sophia Institute Press order recently and was tempted too. I can't remember why, but there were some amazon reviews that made me decide to wait...

Maybe we should start a book exchange! I'm not kidding-if I ordered all the books that I want to read- we'd be eating macorini and cheese every night!

Its so hard because you usually can't get this type of book at the library. I can't even get half the Catholic Mosiac books there.

I am going to order this one, we could use some help memorizing things around here. I'll let you know when I get it!

Funny, it just arrived in my mail box this afternoon...apparently my husband got a burr under his saddle or some such thing and ordered it.

I'll have to check that amazon review...

Sounds interesting. Can't wait to hear the reviews come in of those who have received it!

What do you all think of it? One of the Amazon reviews raved about it and another said there is nothing new you can't pick up on any memory site on the web.

I did click around the web to see what there is and I found a system called "Linking" that involves creating really crazy stories in your head to link items on a list. I can't see how that would work with prayers, scriptures, etc.

Well, my husband like it a lot. fwiw. There may be other memory systems out there, but this book focuses on our Holy Faith which in my mind makes it very nice.

His (converts) parents (in their 70s) ordered it and absolutely love it.

I won't be reading it any time soon though...my stack of books is the usual 10 or so deep.

Boy, this is a tempting one! It is hard to know without seeing it, but it seems like it would be a great resource for high school.

Just this morning dh was rolling his eyes at me about how many books there are in this house.   Since he doesn't read at all, to him, it just looks like a lot of clutter.

Should I buy one more???

Sharie

Well, I got mine and browsed through it.
I don't think it will work for me, because it does involve a bit about making up a story in your head. You basically visualize a room and the objects and people in there and they remind you of the list you are memorizing. Its just not for me. So, if anyone wants it I'll put it on the trading post soon!

When I saw this book, I thought it would be perfect for my husband. I then went to our Catholic store looking for somethin else and it met me at eye level while walking by a shelf. I grabbed it and showed it to my husband. He looked it over and said that it looks like one he will want to read when he's done with one he is reading now. I will probably get it for him for Christmas!
