Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Cay,

I hate to be a nag here, but have you read "Bagels From Benny" yet? I am just dying to know if you feel it is a Mosaic book. I mentioned it awhile back when you asked for ideas for new Mosaic books (it's been awhile, so I don't expect you to remember). Would you please, please give it a look?

Ok, done whining (for now)

Michelle

Michelle,
I hope you don't mind, I moved this into a new thread.
I do remember you mentioning this book but failed to follow-up on it.

I just checked my library system. A neighboring library has the book so I plan to check it out ASAP and get back to you.

Thanks for bringing it back to my attention.

Finding new books and sharing with all of you is never a burden.

Dear Michelle,
The children and I did get around to reading "Bagels from Benny".

What a delightful, heart-touching book it is. We loved it.

It is definitely a "mosaic" book. I'm just not sure about being a "Catholic Mosaic" book.

The reason I question it is because it's a Jewish book...with a Christian message... See where I'm coming from?

But Jesus was Jewish and books---such as "Bagels from Benny"---have absolutely no questionable material in them. Our children can benefit from reading them.

Perhaps we should open a new thread concerning Jewish books and others being included in Mosaic???

I know this was an old thread, but my son pulled this book from the library shelf today. At the time of this thread my library didn't have this book, so now it did, I checked it out. I'm glad I did.

This is such a touching and wonderful book. While not Catholic, I think this would be a great one to use when the child is a bit older and learning about the True Presence and some differences between the Catholic Church and other faiths and denominations.

I loved how Benny's grandfather was so humble, and recognized God's gifts. The story emphasizes gratitude to God, dialogue/praying to God, recognizing His gifts...

I was really struck at some of the parallels of the synagogue and Catholic Church, how different Jesus in the tabernacle is compared to the ark. This book just begs to have that discussion -- what is different? What do we believe? Who is there when we visit our church?

I wouldn't read Bagels from Benny unless I planned to discuss the Real Presence, and I think I would juxtapose another story from Father Gerald Brennan. This story is so similar to "Jesus, Are You There?" from volume II of the Angel Food series reprints, or the First book of the original series, Angel Food.
