Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Since our beloved John Paul II has died, I thought I would use this time to incorporate some information about his life and also about the process about of electing a new pope in our faith studies.
Can anyone suggest a good source of information for grade schoolers about any of this?

For John Paul II's life, you could read The Young Life of Pope John Paul II by Claire Jordan Mohan. We don't have this one (yet!), but enjoyed her book in the same series about Mother Teresa and have another about Sister Faustina sitting on the shelf waiting to be read.

Here's the book we chose on Papal succesion (after reading many reviews, asking many opinions, and deciding we could handle the typos):

Heirs of the Fisherman. It's not for gradeschoolers, but it has kept us informed enough to answer all the questions (and point out when the news media gets it very wrong) !

I just received an email from Pflaum. There is a link there to click on to get activities and readings about the Pope's life. I have not gone through it yet, but thought it may be of interest.
