Hello! I just started this Liturgical Year Bulletin Board with my family:

All of the feast days are from the Old Calendar which is good for us, but I would also like to add in some of the New Calendar feasts. Does anyone have any ideas of what you do in your family about using both calendars? I'm going to add in some of the new calendar saints and days but just haven't figured out how to do it yet as we love the Extraordinary Form of the Mass but the closest one to us is an hour and a half away so we don't get to go much. I hope it won't get too confusing for the kids :)

I just sort of pick and choose what's convenient for us. I mean, obviously some of the newly proclaimed saints won't be on the old calendar but I also am not willing to give up a little devotion to St. Philomena and St. Christopher who got booted from the new calendar!
I use mostly new dates... and add in old ones when it works for us or if we have a particular devotion to someone.

Janette, Welcome to 4Real!
It would be fine to use the bulletin board. Just understand that the calendar she uses isn't the current ones used in either the Extraordinary Form (1962) or the Ordinary Form (current), so it might take some work to get it where you need it.

Ok Jennifer, thanks! I guess I didn't realize it wasn't the 1962 calendar either. I'll work on it :) If I hadn't already put a lot of work into this one, maybe I would just buy Michele's new wall calendar ;)

Without starting a debate, how do I know (as a convert) what to look for on these sites? Not knowing all the nuiances, is there anything specifc to watch for? I completely understand if you want to take this offline.

That is a great question, Lara. As parents raising our children in the faith when there is such an often overwhelming amount of resources out there via the internet, it can be a challenge to discern where everything is coming form. I wish there was a clear cut answer. Some sites will explicitly state their fidelity to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church including most current pope in the about you section. Or they might clearly state a view that does not recognize the current popes as valid. That is helpful in discernment.
Often there is nothing specific to look for. Sometimes lack of anything that really tells about the site is an indication to check it out. Since it isn't always clear, that is one of the reasons that if we as a Catholic message board are aware of anything we do add disclaimers to posts.
I believe Jenn has some specific thoughts on discerning materials she will likely add.

I do think that resources like these can be modified to meet a family's needs - just takes some time and creativity.

Lara, It's a very valid question, but no clear-cut answer. I will give a few thoughts. Know first of all that we are using a broad term "sedevacantist" as someone who says the chair of Peter is empty (and not just in between popes). They do not recognize the current pope, and most don't recognize the popes after Pius XII, nor any current liturgy after the Missal of 1947. That is a simple definition. Those who follow this thinking will use other phrases like "preserving the true Catholic faith" and may not use the same term for themselves.
In this case we know specifically because of previous admission by the site owner herself and posts elsewhere discussing this. Otherwise I couldn't be exactly sure if there wasn't phrasing or otherwise on the site. I would phrase it more of suspected that this site does not recognize the Magisterium.
Besides sedevacantism, there other groups that have irregular status with Rome, such as the Society of Pius X that might have similar red flags.
Some clues to be aware.
1. Everything on the site is all pre-Vatican II and maybe even before that. No popes are quoted after Pius XII. No saints or teachings are promoted if they occur after Pius XII. Now all these materials are not wrong in themselves, but it is not the fullness of faith.
2. The living Magisterium of the Church (which is the teaching office of the Church by Pope and bishops) is not recognized after Pius XII.
2. There is much credence in Imprimatur and Nihil Obstat but only by certain people and by a certain date.
3. The missal and liturgical calendar used or recognized is 1947 or before.
4. The Luminous mysteries of the rosary are not recognized.
5. Language that puts down or invalidates certain forms of Mass.
6. Only Latin is recognized for liturgy.
I can attend a Latin Mass in the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite and it follows the 1962 calendar and missal. Some of the saints aren't updated and the lectionary is different, so it doesn't look exactly like the current Ordinary Form Calendar. But there is still a connection, recognition and obedience with all the teachings of the Church and all the popes.
Both Forms in the Roman Rite are valid and equal. One is not holier than another. The Eucharist is Jesus' Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity in both forms.
I mentioned the Nihil Obstat and Imprimatur. Those are still being issued on matters of faith and morals. I think before a certain time any Catholic material had to have these to be printed, and now it is not necessary except for in matters of faith and morals.
We are not required to pray the Luminous mysteries, but we do need to recognize them. They are not invalid.
I will add that the materials and ideas on this site are beautiful and inspiring and in themselves not wrong at all. But they are not presenting the fullness of the Faith, only part of it. We just need to use caution when visiting these sites.
