Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My sister is sponsoring a mother and daughter this Easter to come into the Church. They are receiving Baptism, Holy Eucharist and Confirmation -- the works. She's trying to think of appropriate gifts. They already have missals, bibles, prayerbooks and catechism.

Crucifixes come to mind. San Damiano image in particular if I can get the accompanying explanation of the symbolism (catechism in pictures).

I also am thinking continued reading material. Rome Sweet Home by the Hahns is one.

Any other suggestions?

Jenn,

When I came into the Church, my best friend gave me a beautiful crown of thorns, which I put out every Lent. It looks similar to the one at this link. I also linked to some other ones at this entry on my blog

When my husband came into the Church, some friends gave him a small statue of the Pieta, similar to this one although I have to say, I haven't found online a reproduction that looks quite as exquisite as the one she gave us. (And, I know she wouldn't have spent a fortune, but it is a beautiful one.)

I love the San Damiano crucifix as well -- that would be lovely, too.

When my husband was received into the church he received a beautiful framed House Blessing with an image of the Sacred Heart on it. It was a wonderful gift. He received two beautiful rosaries; a statue of St. Michael the Archangel and a lovely Pieta.

Try the Leaflet Missal Company here, they have some lovely things.

How about a good Catholic movie? The Reluctant Saint comes to mind but there are many.

I'd go with the sacramentals that people are suggesting. Another nice one would be a holy water font. But a crucifix is the most basic visual home decoration and you definitely want to be sure they have one.

If they are gardeners they might like an outdoor statue of St Francis, St Joseph, or Mary.
