Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I've been going through the archives re-reading some old threads in search for my 1yr old nephew. Most Mass books seem to be for older children. Is there anything with lots of pictures for a 1yr old? He attends Mass in the Traditional Rite.

I don't know of any books like that, but I just wanted to say that your question brought tears of joy to my eyes. I don't think you would hear this question anywhere else in the world but on a Catholic Homeschooling Forum, and we are so blessed to have our faith!

Erin,
We like to use board books for our littles during Mass. I don't know of a lovely Mass book in a board format, but I do have a couple I could recommend.

Board Books
The Saving Name of God the Son by Jeanne Ann Sharpe, illustrations Fra Angelico

My Little Book About God illustrated by Eloise Wilkin

A Child's Book of Prayers by Michael Hague

Non book option
I also use a key ring to hold together a set of laminated holy cards. These have heavy laminate and though chewing is discouraged, it doesn't damage these cards. Punch a hole in the center top of a few cards and add a nice ring. Easy-peasy.

Once he's past the rip and chew stage
I really love this small missal, The Holy Mass. My 2 yo loves it! It's NOT a super sturdy book - just wanted to be totally up front! It's a cardstock cover and heavy paper in the center with a satin ribbon marker. It's stapled together down the center. I've been toying with the idea of taking it apart, laminating it, and rebinding it for durability. If you did that, or added your spiffy laminate covering to the pages (after unbinding), this little gem would be perfect in the hands of a 1 yo!

I know you're overseas, so I had a thought that perhaps you could contact the Joe Bourbeau family (publisher of the little book) and request to purchase a pdf with a one-time-only print permission so you wouldn't have to worry about shipping. It would be worth a shot!

Also, My Prayer Book for Children is a lovely little first prayer book.

And, just so you're TOTALLY set for the next 5 - 6 years with Mass gift ideas, once he's about 5 years old, The Marian Children's Missal is simply wonderful for the early elementary aged child attending the Latin Mass. It has a picture of Father on every single page!!! Such a great little Missal with engaging pictures. Perfect amount of information! It's a GREAT first Missal!!!!

Hope this is a start at least, Erin!

My See and Pray Missal is an inexpensive (in case he rips it apart) missal with lots of pictures. My little kids use it and like it.

My favorite prayer book for children 5 and under is My Prayer Book. It is a little green book with beautiful images, poetic sounding prayers, and illustrations of the Traditional Mass (the Mass pictures are not fancy, but they are recognizable). This is my one-year-old daughter's favorite book to look at when we are at Mass. My three and five-year-old sons also like it. The latter likes to look at the illustrations of the Mass and follow along. We have several copies of this book and I like to give it as a baby gift when I have unused extras on hand.

The Holy Mass looks good and is on my want list. I keep forgetting to buy it when I order from Fraternity Publications.

I know that you asked about a one year old, but my five year old also likes My Mass Book.

Thank you Such lovely books, and I notice a few recommended a couple of times so that is a great indication. Trying to get them here though for a decent price is um interesting. But I will persist. The little green book, My Prayer Book is one I purchased many years ago. I'll contact the suppliers and see if they still stock it. The board books look delightful, but to have to pay $20 I just can't do.

There is a sweet book that my daughter loves. She had it since she was 1. It has been one of her favourites. Baby Come to Church

Olivia

This looks lovely, is it for a Traditional Mass or Novus Ordo?

This is my favorite too. We have given this to all our girls when they are about 1 and they've all loved it!   We attend the Novus Ordo, and the pics in the back are for latin mass.....it's no big deal....they mostly like the colored pictures and memorizing the poems and the size. My 6 yo still carries hers.

And, my older two have put theirs away for "safe keeping" and they want to keep them forever....since it really was their first Mass/prayer book. But last year they used them for Copy Work.

I keep extras on hand too....great gifts!

We just got these this week. They haven't made it to mass yet, but they are very sweet. The boys like them, and for $2, they each have their own!

Would this be too young for a three year old attending a Novus Ordo? Or would you recommend something else for a three year old? (for NO)

I missed this before but a small picture album is also nice for holding Holy Cards together in a book format.

No, not too young! All my girls used this book until about FHC age...and they will still pull it out of a little one's bag to look at and read before mass or after communion.
