Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We've used Faith and Life every year. I really like the 1st and 2nd grade books but I felt like the 3rd grade book took a jump into more analytical thinking then my 3rd grader was ready for. Any suggestions for 4th grade?

I am interested to hear your suggestions too. We have been using Seton catechism and I am trying to decide if we should continue with it or change(my son will be starting 4th grade too).

MommyD, I am wondering if you could explain your thoughts on Faith and Life a little more. I was thinking about switching to it, but haven't actually seen a copy. I have only seen a small sample online. Thanks!

Maybe you two could swap...Seton for F&L...F&L for Seton.

Sounds like a good idea, except that I think we both need 4th grade but neither of us have it yet.

I was really happy with 1st and 2nd grade. The workbook questions are taken word for word from the reader and you just have to fill in the blanks (I'm fine with that-it makes my kids go back and re-read the book). The 3rd grade book seems to require more...thought..I guess, which isn't bad but my 3rd grader wasn't ready. Also, the spaces for the answers get a lot smaller and so he had a really hard time fitting in his answers. This year I had a lot of complaining about religion and I never did before. I'd like to find something that he will enjoy.

Am I wrong? Maybe we should stick with F&L and use it to learn how to think about what we're reading and not just fill in the blanks?? I don't know.

What I've found with my children is it's worth moving from 'write down the answers' to 'discuss the questions with mom' when the questions become more difficult.

I've noticed that my children would be ready to answer critical thinking questions aloud (with the help of leading questions if necessary) a year or so before they were ready to answer such questions in writing.
