Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I need some ideas for a friend whose children have not been catechised. They are almost middle school age. Where would you start? What resources could I recommend?

TIA

I'd likely start by trying to live the liturgical year and answering questions. Once interest has been established I'd move on to providing proper material.

Books I'd consider using with a child who's expressed interest.

St. Patrick's Summer: A Children's Adventure Catechism is about two middle schooled aged children who haven't been properly catechised.

I found it rather like reading Kipling's Puck of Pook's Hill (a book I loved as a child) with the protagonists talking to historical characters and seeing events from the past. There's quite a bit of catechism given in an entertaining fashion.

It would be good for the sort of child who best likes learning with a story attached.

My oldest daughter was much happier with the St. Joseph Balitimore Catechism #1 as it gave 'just the facts' with enough explanation (and scripture) for her to understand it. Nothing extraneous.
