Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I think it was here I read it - if you do this can you elaborate on how you do it?

I just found a beautiful candle holder that we are turning into our wreath, and it has 2 levels with 4 candles each, then a top with just one candle. It's in a cone shape. The top is easy - white candle for Jesus. The bottom four we're using as our advent candles - so purple & pink. But the 2nd set of four I'm trying to tie into the christmas season somehow - any ideas? Colors?

White is Church's color for the Christmas season. I usually change out our Advent wreath for white on Christmas Eve after Mass, and then to gold candles for Epiphany. Some people like green or red for Christmas, too.

We always just burn all white from Christmas thru to Epiphany ... it's a rather striking image after the purple/pink!

We do the same thing as Mary. Christmas Eve at dinner we light the Christ candle in the center of the Advent wreath along with the 3 purple and one pink. Then on Christmas we have a brunch and use the wreath with all white candles.

Peace,
Nancy

I do the same thing, but with red candles.

On Christmas Eve, I remove the Advent candles around the wreath. Every year we have slight variations in what we do. Sometimes I've replaced the Advent candles with white ones and use red bows (like the ones that folks put on the tree to decorate) and mini ornaments to decorate and spruce up the wreath.

Sometimes we leave the place where the advent candles had been empty and just decorate with gold colored ornaments. When we do this, then we definitely have a very special candle in the middle. One year I found a beautiful candle of Our Lady holding baby Jesus and we lit that one. Unfortunately I didn't know about candle snuffers then and the candle is no longer beautiful so I can no longer bring it out for this - though I still admire it, my visual children would find it ugly.

If we have white candles to light around the wreath, then I use a special statue of the Holy Family. Oh and one year, my mom gave me a special candle set of the Holy Family with white candles with gold trim. I use that in the center sometimes.

I think one of the things our children anticipate is wondering what the table will look like on Christmas morning. They won't find out until we come down in the morning and eat breakfast. I really have fun doing this - no stress thing as I use what is around or what just happens to pop out at me when we are doing our regular shopping.

We do have special prayers (like the Advent ones but for the Christmas season) that we pray when we light the candles marking the octave. I have no idea where they came from. They were put together in a little book that one of the other homeschooling families put together for everyone in our first year of homeschooling - many, many years ago.

We change our candles out to white, and I take the purple ribbon off of our wreath and wrap a gold ribbon around the wreath instead, and put in some Christmas piks from the craft store,,,pinecones and such...
