Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

usually there is a prayer service first (ours starts at 9 am) and then the liturgy (ours usually goes from 10-12) our church has coffee hour afterwards in the fellowship hall.

for men, dress would be a nice shirt (not necessarily a tie) and long pants, though i did see a 20 something with shorts and flip flops a few weeks ago    if is is a wedding or funeral, i would probaby recommend a tie and jacket.

the priest is called Father + first name, even by those who arent members of the church.    our priest is Father Tom.

non orthodox do not receive the eucharist, but are encouraged to receive holy bread, or friendship bread. this is usually given at the end of the liturgy.

hope that helps

At our church most men and boys don't wear any shirts. My kids wear a nice clean shirt (not dress shirts here!) and long pants.

Our liturgy lasts around 1 1/2 hours.

Also, at many Orthodox churches there are no seats...at our church we stand the whole service except for the message when we either sit on benches at the side or on the floor!

Kristie umm i think you made a typo...
"don't wear any shirts."

That probably would be distracting

Thanks for the heads up about standing and the longer liturgy.

Dh will just wear what he does to intern at the library.
Monica we get lots of flip flops here too- and the ocassional belly button ring .

It is ok about the Eucharist as dh is celiac and couldn't receive anyway.

Thanks so much again
