Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Last December I sat down with my new planner and filled in lots of dates in a fun planning spree. This week I turned the page and noticed that I had written down Wed-Fri-Sat as Ember Days this week. Did I calculate correctly or does Ash Wednesday take precedence (like sunday vs a saint day)? I think they can go quite nicely together...

The Lenten Ember Days take place on the week *after* Ash Wednesday--so the Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday of next week.

Can someone please explain "Ember" days to me? I've only recently heard of these but don't really know the significance.

Maggie, I think a great place to get an explanation and understanding of Ember Days is read through this thread from late last summer. Many of us were learning more about Ember Days at that time and discussing it here. There are some links to great resources and blog post which go into even more depth with the explanations.
