Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My husband would like to read (and own) a scholarly, but accessible, book about St. Catherine of Siena. We were given the opportunity to visit her home, see her (reasonably intact!) head, etc. a couple of years ago. Since I'm mired in the Back of Beyond, I'd appreciate any recommendations you have. Thanks!

I loved Lay Siege to Heaven by Louis De Wohl. It is a novel but it is very well written and it is very accurate. From all his books LSTH was my favorite.

I second that. I really enjoyed Lay Siege to Heaven, it was hard to put it down.

Hi Nancy,

I'll 3rd the Louis de Wohl book but also wanted to mention St. Catherine of Sienna by Bl. Raymond of Capua who was her confessor. Bl. Raymond of Capua writes as if he's speaking to you so some of it is actually quite funny. This book is a real "1st-hand account".
