Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Is it expected to give the Deacon who performs a private Baptism a gift? If it is, do you give a monetary gift? What amount is appropriate?

If it is not expected, and you simply want to provide a thank you gift and note, what is appropriate? Monetary? Other?

Thank you SO much. When my husband and I discussed this (and neither of us had any idea of the way to proceed) he said, "you should write to those ladies on your board." He knows I can always get answers here!

Tracey,

Something as simple as a thoughtful thank-you note is wonderful. Perhaps tuck a holy card of your child's name saint in there. I suppose you could ask about a special mission or ministry that your deacon supports and give to that in his name.

My husband is in formation, so we've had the chance to meet lots and lots of deacons. I think that most of the men we know would be very uncomfortable receiving a monetary gift. They'd be very blessed by a note, a contribution to the parish or a mission in their name. Certainly, a small handmade gift (bible cover, rosary), or a nice book from the religious store would be a more extravagant thank-you, but much appreciated.

Blessings,
