Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am trying to recall where I saw a craft last year for this feast Day. I remember it included felt on a heart with plastic cocktail swords piercing it. Do you remember where this is?

Also, how are you celebrating this??

This is another great idea !! I love adding food to the feast!! Thanks for finding and sharing it with me Charlotte! ( I actually went to your blog today thinking maybe it is was from you!!)
The one I remember was a craft and the sorrows were on the cocktail sword and stuck in a felt covered heart... now that i think more about it I think it was a styrofoam cut out into a heart and covered with pink felt...

I don't remember that one. I hope someone else who remembered to take her memory pills does! It sounds like a great idea.

I recall visiting a blog that had a pink heart stabbed with daggers, like a pin cushion. Each dagger had the 7 sorrows attached.

We did this craft. Attaching a sword each day before the feast, and announced the sorrow it represented.

Anyone (hint: Charlotte/Matilda) have a coloring page for Our Lady of Sorrows ... I want to do a shrinky dink plaque as I did for Holy Name of Mary (scroll down towards the bottom to see the final!)

Sorrowful Mother

and

Our Lady of Sorrows

How did you know? Will either of those work?

Matilda -- those are perfect! I particularly like the Our Lady of Sorrows! I'm going to try and print directly to the shrinky dinks paper from the computer ...

BTW, you can also get the shrinky dinks from Jo-Anns or any craft store ... it's great fun to use and very easy for the kids to create cool things ... just remember, it shrinks to about 1/3 it's original size .....

You should see the original from the Our Lady Of Sorrows Shrine in Starkenberg, Missouri. (Fourth picture down.)

At Catholic Cuisine I posted what I hope is an easy to throw together idea for observing the feast day today.

Tears of Our Lady

Here is what we ended up doing. I never made it to the store for those cocktail swords. I used the Sorrow print outs from the Year with God

I know the actual feast day is over, but since it is the devotion for the month of September, I'm bumping this thread and adding an outline of what we did today with some friends.

Scripture search activity (need to be readers to do it on own - otherwise parent can read the passage and child can match it)
2009-09-16_030422_Find_the_scripture_passage_.doc

Make books marks with 7 bead "tears" to represent Our Lady's Sorrows.

Listen to Stabat Mater by Haydn as background music

Art appreciation. Using the following images from famous artists throughout the ages, find the ones that match each sorrow. Talk about the pictures - what do you notice?
2009-09-16_032817_Sorrows1.doc
2009-09-16_032838_Sorrows1a.doc

2009-09-16_032727_Sorrows2a.doc

Have a treat - 7 lemon drops, representing each of Mary's sorrows. My article describing it at Catholic Cuisine

Since we were at a location with an Stations of the Cross, we went to the outdoor stations to find the ones where a sorrowful Mary is pictured.

Mary,
Your lemon drop activity was an incredibly moving one for us yesterday. Lots of great conversation and meditation! Thank you so much!

Hi Emily,

I think this might be the project you are looking for. I had it posted in one of my photo albums on my previous blog. I went ahead and re-posted it in detail in my new blog.
