Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm presenting at my women of faith meeting on wednesday night. I had planned on doing a bible/world event timeline. Now, I'm wondering if it would be interesting, after all, it isn't the study of a specific woman. Opinions? Also, I need to come up with some questions - are there any online sources for this sort of thing?

And just for fun, if you could discuss any woman of faith, who would it be and why?

I think a Bible/world event timeline would be very interesting. But I don't know what the focus of the discussion is supposed to be. If you are supposed to discuss a woman of faith,St. Monica would be a great choice. There is a wonderful historical novel about her called My Brothers, Remember Monica by Patricia McGerr that you could recommend. A timeline of her and Augustine's lives and the world during that time would be interesting also. Another interesting woman would be Dorothy Day. You can find out plenty about her at the Houston Catholic Worker (one of the few Catholic Worker sites that is totally faithful to the Magesterium). There is a great video you could recommend called Entertaining Angels about her life and the founding of the Catholic Worker Movement.

Mother Mary Lange could be very interesting because she isn't very well known and in the early 1800's she founded one of the only order of nuns to accept black sisters. Here's her biography. That could be a timely topic with Rosa Parks' funeral coming up this week.

Gwen, thank you for responding! My problem is that my own history is inadequate and so I was thinking a timeline would fill in my holes. The other women in the group are happy to have anything discussed. The only problem, is what would the discussion questions be?

Thank also for all the women you mentioned. We haven't done any of them yet. What to do!

okay, here's my plan. I'm going to give this women of the bible quiz and then we will read the stories associated with the quiz. and finally, we will put the women in chronological order and stick them into our book of time. i'm pretty excited about this idea!

If you still want to use discussion questions, you could talk about which virtues are associated with the women and why.
