Okay, so it was clearly never thought out how a mama might want to do an ABC of saints with her son and get completely stuck on some letters!
For Y I have the alternative spelling for Joseph Mkasa (Yosefu). For z, there's ZIta.
But what about X. I can only come up with Xavier, Francis. Which isn't even the proper "ex" sound I wanted.
Any ideas for U, sounding "uh"? I thought of Ursula.
Q? So many of them are alternative spellings of obscure saints and I can't get much of a handle on them. I thought of using Queen of Heaven for that.
I'm doing a simple re-telling of some of the saints story, and then having an activity suggested by the story or the patronage.
Has anyone got a proper book of saints that they could see what was used for those tricky letters!

Lucy, have you looked at the Patron Saint Index?
Ursula would be good for U, lots of images of her for your book.

An Alphabet of Catholic Saints also uses Ursula, Vincent de Paul, Wenceslas, Francis Xavier, Joseph Yuen and Zita.

Lucy, What a great project! Can you describe what you have done so far? How are you putting it together? Pasting pictures, or drawing?

FYI, Patron Saints Index is moving to a different address, but I think the sites are linked right now.
Q- I think of Queens. Queen Clotilde and Queen Hedwig are two I've found, but I know there are others. There are other names I found in my book: Quadratus, Quentin, Quintius, Quirinius, Quiteria. I LOVE the sound and look of this name: Quadragesimus
U -- I love Ursula. Lots of drama, but her name was pulled from the General Roman Calendar since there was no historical evidence. (Doesn't mean she's not a saint, they just can't prove it.) But if you want a male saint, Ubald of Gubbio and Pope Urban I is a saint, with two other Blessed Urbans.
Not sure if you can find a Proper Sounding X. The X names include Xystus, which is Sixtus in Latin. I would pick a prominent saint, which would be Francis Xavier. My Dictionary of Saints does include a Xantippa from the 1st century, described in Roman Marytrology with Polyxena (another x) as "disciples of the apostles" who died in Spain, feast September 23. Nothing else is known about them.
I know you have a "Y", but William of York would be a good example of Y.

I'm using St Ursula Ledoschowska for U. I'm enjoying finding saints who are more contemporary, less well-known (by me anyway) or from more "exotic" places, like St Yosefu Mkasa. I've got St Dorothy (one of sister's names and he can make a basket of roses and fruit to take to an elderly friend, so what's not to love?) and St Christopher, who are somewhat "vague" and uncertain. St Clothilde would be great, but we've included St Thomas More and St William of Rochester who are patron saints of adopted children but yes, I could think of other queens - St Margaret of Scotland might be a nice one - or wasn't St Elzabeth of Hungary a queen too?
What I am doing is writing up a little story, adding the activity and printing it all off to stick in a scrap book. Then on the facing page, DS will eitehr draw a picture or stick in a photo of whatever activity he did. The thing I find hard is coming up with an activity that sort of is appropriate to the saint.
For O I might do Bl Otto Neureuer who was the first Catholic priest martyred in ww2. Then I will have to call it an ABC of saints and beati!

Yes, those are the exact other two I was thinking.

That a good one. I know you're trying to go exotic, but I'd have to put Oliver Plunkett for me. There's a dear family in our area that can call him their relative. How cool is that?
