I just got the LTP catalog and I'm so disappointed in the 2009 calendar. I don't even think it looks Catholic. Check it out here. Does anyone else know any other source for a nice looking liturgical year poster?

yes, this looks more modern than the two previous years' -- though I do like the lion-lamb theme... but like you would love to see other suggestions, if any.

If you can't find another, would it be possible to maybe cut out the "circle" and just have the info then laminate it? I haven't used this so I am not sure how well that would work.

I didn't much care for this year's layout and was looking forward to it with all the great praise from last year.

I made my own (undated one) 2 years ago - I am going back to this - though I did use the big LTP one last year. My kids always preferred the one we made with all their Saint pictures etc.

I love symbols, and I'm eager to read the explanation of the "depicts in its corners prophetic vision of the kingdom of God and in the center, the restoration of the kingdom promised us by Christ." It looks like the Eucharistic Host over the lion and the lamb, one of my favorite images.

As far as other liturgical calendars, The FAQ of Liturgical Year Resources has a few ideas.

Do you think the actual calendar wheel is the same size from year to year with LTP? Because buying an unlaminated version of this year's calendar and cutting and pasting on the old wheel would be a good solution.

No, this is this year's LTP calendar (2008) - it will end in a few months. Also the picture they show is a stock one I believe - it's not the current year illustration by Suzanne Duranceau (I have that one).

I have preferred some of the past ones, but I like this one, too, and think it would appeal to a child as Jenn mentioned. I am curious about the description of the symbols on the back as well. The corner scences are kind of whimsical and it will be interesting to know what they represent - to bring the meaning to it.

LTP really is the only one that has a calendar like this with all the days of the year, large poster size, and in color.

EDITED: Oh, and I do believe the circle is basically the same size every year, so I think Jenn's idea of cutting it out and placing it over the past year circle would be a good alternative.

How big are these things? It says poster size, but it doesn't give dimensions. I kind of like the colors although I agree that the style of the artwork is not my favorite.

Us too! It's too pretty to take down. I'm considering cutting out the pictures and putting them into a scrapbook, or something...

I did this about 8 years ago - I don't remember what the picture was then, but I didn't care for it. It was easy to do! The calendar is so valuable, and it is the only one like it. The calendar is the same size every year, so if you wanted to you could re-use your center circle each year.

I would also add that I found my son focused on the actual calendar days/circle, and not really worried about the other visuals. It was all pleasing to the eye, so that's the point of the added graphical illustrations. It draws you to the wheel, not to the illustrations themselves.

The downside of the suggested idea would be not having that circle laminated, so I'd add that extra step before pasting. Lamination for me is key and worth the extra money.

I'm also going to add that last year I "discovered" that dry erase markers work well on the laminated poster. We used red to color in Pentecost, as that was a key element missing to the visual presentation.

But this next year I'm going to incorporate the dry erase markers even more. I think a week in advance we'll add the corresponding colors of the vestments of the day (this ties in with the suggestions of the Good News Planners)

And we'll X out individual days in the morning, like using the daily Advent calendar.

I'd like to find a white and purple dry erase marker to match liturgical colors, but that is probably really tricky. Yellow or gold will have to be the "white".

I like the low odor and I see that Expo Markers have purple and yellow. It would be good to buy these for tax free weekend in VA!
