We have been attending a Tridentine Mass for about 6 months now. Today my dh and I went to Confession. I have a question:
When Father gave me my penance I thought I heard him say "Say an act of contrition". This would be the norm as we usually do have to say one in front of the priest. But then when I started to say it I realized that he was saying the words of Absolution in Latin to me so I stopped and was a bit embarrassed.
I then thought he must have meant the Act of Contrition to be a part of my penance.
In researching it I did come across one article that said, "The penitent next said a short Act of Contrition while the priest pronounced his prayer of absolution in Latin." I am a little confused and was wondering if any other Tridentine goers could help me out on this one. Thanks! The article was very interesting and I think I will go find it and post it here for anyone interested!

I guess some of the priests I know don't care whether it's not in the new rite or not. I've had many confessions where I say the Act of Contrition and the words of absolution are said simultaneously. I thought it was just a personal preference of the priest...guess I need to read up on the rules of the Sacrament of Penance.

Hi Laura,
We too, have been going to the Latin Mass, and in doing
confession, the priest asks us to say the Act of Contrition, then he gives absolution in English, and after he dismisses me , I can hear him say the Latin
absolution(rapidly). Each priest has his own style.

But, the Sacrament is still the same, thanks
be to God!!!
