Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Is the Carmelite Latin mass the same as a Tridentine Latin mass?

I have never attended a Latin mass; the closest one has been in the next state 3 hrs away.
They will be having a Carmelite Latin mass very close that I can attend. What do I need to know before I go?

Thank you!

It depends. Can you find out if it is the Novus ordo Latin Mass or Tridentine? They both are in Latin and are similar. You can do a search on the web for Tridentine Masses and see if its listed. The only Carmelite TLM I know of off of the top of my head in the states is near Lincoln,NE, but there could be more, especially now with the Motu Proprio.

I forgot to mention that the only difference I know of that the Carmelites do is that the nuns chanted the responses instead of the altar boy.

I found at a web site that it is the Tridentine.

Do I need to cover?

Will they have books to follow along?
Will it be mostly in chant?

Thank you for your help!!

Most women cover but its not required. Even a hat or scarf will do. Most Tridentine Masses have red missals at the back of the church to follow along. It probably will be chanted unless it is a low Mass. The first few times you attend, it may seem confusing and hard to follow, but it does get easier with time. I remember the first few times I went, I just enjoyed the silence and beauty of it all.
Also, you don't have to say "amen" at communion and you kneel and only on the tongue. HTH>
