My daughter, inspired by reading about a Swedish girl in America (thanks to American Girl books) is all amped about St. Lucia's Day.
We've nary a drop of Swedish blood in us.  I'm 100% Argentine, my husband is everything. (Sayyy, maybe there's some Swedish in there. Somewhere.) So, I've been reading about it, planning bread to make, etc.
But I can't seem to find a crown with electric "candles" on it, though everyone mentions it. 
Tips? Help?

Hemslojd is the main place where I get my St. Lucia items. They have the battery crowns here.

Hope that helps! Because we only have boys here, I bought a real brass crown from Hemslojd which uses real candles, but I use it as a centerpiece.

Oh, and Maria -- I don't have an ounce of Swedish, but I love this feast day and the saint!

Thank you!!!!  I'm just very excited about this.
And I suppose that one of the best things about being Catholic is that we get to bypass borders and nationalities and just adopt all the saints, regardless of country, into our families.

Maria, if it helps...I don't think St. Lucia was Swedish either! She was martyred in Sicily actually.

Our electric st. lucy wreath is the BEST THING I spent money on a couple years ago! It gets lots of use on Dec 13 AND on All saints day, cuz SOMEONE always wants to be St. lucy.
Ours is one of the first ones Jenn linked to, and after a couple years, one of the little plastic tabs came off....i still have one to go to keep it in place, but it's inevitable that it will probably come off too one day. I would probably spend a bit more money for a bit better quality one if I had to do it over again. But, then again, I have 4 girls using it.

If you find a better quality one, holler. The crowns I have found seem to all be the same brand, either green or gold. Years ago American Girl sold a really nice one, and I kick myself to this day that I didn't buy it.

I just figured out that the "next step up" would be the $54 crown....YIKES! So....nevermind.

I just put the finishing touches on our baby-safe advent candles. After seven years of watching my dh suffer through the advent prayers without breathing (for fear that one of the kids will knock the wreath over and burn themselves)  , I decided to look for battery operated candles. I found these candles at one of the local Michael's. Look down the page for item: 6201-01. They call them "Welcome Candles." The base just screws off and the candle fits into a standard advent wreath. I found some pink and purple ribbon on sale, wrapped them accordingly and hot-glued in place. I am very pleased with the outcome. I know it won't have the same sensory effect as a real candle but maybe we can keep them "lit" for more than 30 sec./night this year! 
Anyway, the point being that you could possibly use something like this for a St. Lucy wreath, right? I'll leave that to you crafty moms with girls old enough to enjoy these beautiful traditions!
