Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Can you tell me when during your year you inrto the concept of sacrements and focus on each one ?
The reason I ask is Mary & I have never taught before this class . Beside our own children that is .
We were asked to help the previous teacher and then were to take over the class as she is letting it go .
Well, the first class was disater . I left half way .It was so bad she was so abusive to the children . I refused to return . I just won't partake in enabling .
We then had a meeting with Fr. & the new religious coorinator . I told them it was truely a difference in teaching styles & approcahes but as well my purpose for being in that first class may just have been because of my role as missionary & intercessor . That if the church wishes to continue with this person teaching I accept that .
Well they really do wish for Mary & I to teach but what we can see even though they speoke with the original teacher they did not .They avoided the issues . Fear of course etc. Yet the result was Mary & I assuming we were coming and leading the class etc. we planned the kids faith journals and we are following the topics in the baltimore catechism but using hands on CM learning . many crafts , stories etc.
Yet this other woman arrived as well under the same assumption she was teaching and leading the class .
She was all prepared to enter into the toic of baptism . bowl of water in hand , word search puzzles & photo copied fill in the blanks . I don't like that stuff anyway but these children are inner city aboriginal children it is just a fact many struggle with learning disabilities . even fetal alcohol etc.
so right off we disagreed on topic and approach . She said well can I just present this and then you do what you like . I didn't want to but said yes. However I told her I for sure wish to start the class off with prayer & introduction . She had not done this the last class . She just ploped in a 2hr movie into the VCR and left the room . It was terrible .
So yes she agreed to the rayer idea . I thought well we'll just have to suffere through her demo after and then begin with the trinity .
But she didn't stay half way through the intro of ourselves she got up and started preparing the snack in the kitchen . Mary & I had already thought for snacks we are involving the older children to help .
Well she then left the building and didn't return at all . So what were we do do .? We just continued with our theme of introducing the trinity and began with God the Father . We made our faith journals and had a great snack . We sent the kids each home with a pen or pencil and a little black book to be thier journal at home .
So now I had a meeting with Fr. & Delores again . I explained how this woman felt the first class had gone bad and apologized for it but what she was apologizing for was not a poor choice in learning materials or approach she was apologizing for the childrens poor behaviour . I told them Mary & I had a great class we loved it . This woman will no doubt have hated this class as well as the first one .
I guess I just feel a tad un sure . Am I off track to want to help these children build a relationship first with God , Mary the saints and angels first . Begin to explore and come to know the catholic religion what it is who we are . This class the first word I introed to them was the word catholic what it meant the true meaning . For next 3 week I would like to inrto the words Christ , Jesus & Represent because for 3 weeks we are focusing on Jesus . But am I totally off here ? maybe baptism is the topic in most RCIC classes at the beginning ?
I know this is long . We are all meeting on Sunday after mass and I just want to be on the right track etc. What do you think those who have taught RCIC . eSPECIALLY THOSE IN MISSION CHURCHES WORKING WITH MINORITIES WHO HAVE SUFFRED MUCH IN eUROPEAN SYSTEMS ETC. oops They told Mary & I they always end up with about 4-5 children by first communion rather then the 20 they start out with . To us it was very clear why . Ileft that first class .I would never have wanted to learn another thing about the catholic religion after that experience . I thanked all the children for returning to the class .
I'd love to hear your opinions & experiences please . As I said maybe God was just asking me there for that one class to pray for those children and this womans soul . Which I did of course after I got over my anger issues but I truely would love to help with this RCIC with Mary it is so much fun .
Much Love , Roxie
