Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Can anyone recommend a good biography for me (and one for kids too?) - I know very little about this Saint and thought this would be good October reading for me.

Marilyn,

St. Teresa of Avila's autobiography is very good reading, and not too much for you to do. Her other works are very lofty and a bit harder to read (in fact, I haven't finished the others). I read her autobiography when I was in my 20s and was very moved.

An older biography that is recommended very often is by Marcelle Auclair. There are several versions, and it goes in and out of print, so it seems to be readily available.

For a read aloud with you and the children, the Daughters of St. Paul had an Encounter book called "Leaving Matters to God" which was excellent. It's thicker than most of their series, but very, very good. It's out of print, of course, but I found multiple copies under $10.

Her life is very "real", not some plaster saint, or sugary sweet stories. I think you'll really enjoy learning more.

Check bookfinder.com for these books to see a range of OOP sources.

Thank you Jenn. For the autobiography - is it the classic - Amazon has a couple of selections.

I have not had success locataing the Encounter the Saints book for the kids - maybe I need to check that I have the name right. Thanks for the Bookfinder tip - had never heard of it before!!

Marilyn, there are so many version for the autobiography. It's definitely readily available. I'd probably go with the Institute of Carmelite Studies (ICS) version, or older version by Sheed & Ward or something.

"Leaving Matters to God" is by Louise Bellucci Cantoni, and again, I just pulled up a bunch of copies. You'll love bookfinder.com!
