Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I know that it was yesterday and that the Sunday takes precedence, but I was encouraged to share a story about Padre Pio with all of you. When we were living in South Texas, it was my privilege to get to meet a little girl who was granted one of many miracles through his intercession. Her miracle occurred after his canonization and is documented in medical journals. I encouraged her mother to notify those in charge of his cause but I don't know if she ever did. We lost touch with the family, but this story will stay with me forever. You can read about it here.

I love St. Pio. He's so popular in Italy...people leave tons of flowers around his statues at this time each year.

Did you know that, during WWII, pilots saw his image floating in the sky as they flew over San Giovanni Rotondo, where his monastery was, and then discovered their bomb bay doors couldn't open? San Giovanni Rotondo was never bombed.
