Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I was hoping that someone knows something about this here. Last Sunday at Mass, there were many communicants. I've always thought that when there might be more communicants than hosts, that the hosts were broken into smaller pieces, since even fragment is still the Real Presence. But this particular priest stopped distributing Communion and went back to the altar and had another Consecration, saying the words very quietly. The Communion hymn was still playing, people were standing in line waiting to receive.
Has anyone ever heard of a second Consecration during Mass???

I haven't. This question was addressed by our former pastor in the bulletin this past weekend. He was asked what he would do if he ran out of consecrated hosts. He mentioned the breaking into smaller pieces, and then added that if he still ran out before everyone received Communion, that he would apologize, and continue on with Mass. I've never seen it happen either way.

I seem to recall reading something about it on EWTN's Q&A and that it was allowed. I'll see if I can find more.

Thanks Noreen. Somehow I didn't think it was right.
