Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am trying to track down a hymn sung in the US, on behalf of the Fathers of Mercy priest, Fr Ben Cameron who is here for the mission in my city.   The name of it escaped him at that present moment and I said I would try to track it down here.

I am singing for the Mass this Thursday, the feast of Sts Philip and James. He wanted to know if we recognised a particular hymn that he knows back in the States. It is from the Worship hymnal? I think that is what he said.. It has a few verses and some of them are about the different apostles.

Can anyone help me?

Many thanks, Anne

Anne,

Jenn is usually pretty good at these , but she is not here right now. Do you have any more words to go from?

Does he mean "By All Your Saints Still Striving"

Verse 1. By all yours saints still striving,
For all your saints at rest,
Your holy Name, O Jesus,
Forevermore be blessed
You rose, our king victorious,
That they might wear the crown
And ever shine in splendor
Reflected from your throne.

then verse #2 for St. Philip and James (May 3):

We praise you Lord, for Philip,
Blest guide to Greek and Jew,
And for young James the faithful,
Who heard and followed you,
O grant us grace to know you,
The victor in the strife,
That we with all your servants
May wear the crown of life.

In the Worship book, it lists the tune as ST. THEODULPH, meclchior Terschner (1584-1635)

I could sing it for you if you don't know the tune , but I'm not sure if they have sheet music on line. Do you have a worship book?

It also has a third verse...

ETA: I just did a search and found an episcopal site that plays this title song on midi -- but it's not the same tune that's in the Worship book.

Fuzzy, I don't have any more words unfortunately, I thought I could pick it up on an internet search with some key words but no luck - so I thought I'd try the one place I was sure to get some help!

Maryan, This looks like it could be it - do you mind putting up the rest of the words for the hymn? Because I'm thinking this: these words sound perfect to the tune "All Glory, Praise and Honor" and so if it turns out to be a tune that Australians don't know (and it is very likely) we can easily sing it to this familiar tune that everyone could sing with great gusto.

Thanks for your help so far!

That is the tune! I'm laughing at myself for not recognizing it!

Here's verse three:

Then let us praise the Father
And worship God the Son
And sing to God the Spirit,
Eternal Three in One,
Till all the ransomed number
Who stand before the throne,
Ascribe all pow'r and glory
And praise to God alone.

Maryan, Maryan, I'm so late in returning to THANK YOU! It was the one, Father hummed the tune, it was a very familiar tune we use to another hymn and so it was sung as the procession hymn and everyone in the packed church sung with great gusto! (they knew the tune and had printed sheets with these unfamiliar words.)

It was a great ending to the Mission Week!
