Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Our 8yo son will be receiving his 1st Holy Communion at the end of this month. There isn't a "required" type of dress... just something nice. I was told that he can dress up as much as he wants or can simply wear a polo type shirt with dress slacks. Our ds wears polo type shirts and some long sleeve dress shirts (minus a tie) to Mass on Sunday's..will this be ok/proper for 1st Communion?

Thanks
Debbie

Debbie, I also think that sounds fine. My 7yo is making his FHC in May. Every other boy in his class is wearing a white suit, but my son is wearing a beige suit, with a short sleeve white shirt and white tie. It is the outfit his older brother wore when he made his FHC, and it fits him beautifully.

Congratulations to your little boy!

I have only seen one little boy ever wear a white suit but it was adorable. My son made his First Holy Communion in October which was a month before we had to attend an evening wedding, so he wore a black double breasted jacket with olive pants and then also wore it a month later for the wedding! Had it been in the spring or summer, I don't know that I would have put him in a jacket.

He did insist on wearing a "real tie" (not a clip-on) and something blue, since it is Mary's favorite color, so I made him a white rose boutonniere and wrapped it in a blue ribbon.

Oh, Matilda I love this! I'm going to see about doing something like that for my son.

I make a huge deal out of the dc clothing for FHC. My reasoning is that the way we dress, does affect our attitude, and I would say receivng Our Lord for the first time is a HUGE honor!

Matilda I love that your ds wanted to wear blue for Mary, that is so dear!

My Thomas' FHC (which he'll do with Maggie on 4/29 WAHOOOOOO!), he'll wear a navy blue blazer for Our Lady, a white button-down for purity, the tie his almost 18yobrother wore at his FHC, and khaki slacks.....

Wearing a white suit just wouldn't work for Thomas and it's just not reasonable or prudent for us to buy him a suit he'd wear once. This sport coat/kahki will be perfect for his cousins wedding and he can wear it to Mass (even with a polo shirt)......

It's easier with girls because a fancy white dress can be modified to work for other things ... as Matilda shows so beautifully here
