Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Our homeschool group is holding a Mary fair (like a science fair) and I have chosen Our Lady of Czestochowa for our family. I've googled it and have come across a couple of resources, but thought I'd see what you all can offer me. What I am looking for is maybe a book? There aren't that many things that came up on google so I'm hoping y'all can help me out here.

I chose this because this particular name of Mary kept coming up and it called to me.

I'm not wording this well, but I'm trying to post this before running to the bathroom.

KC,

If my memory is correct, Pope John Paul II had a devotion to Our Lady of Czestochowa. She's also called the "Black Madonna." But you may already know that.

Amazon has a book compiled from the late Holy Father's writings about Mary, John Paul's Book of Mary
Maybe you could find it or inter-library loan it from your libray. I don't know where you live but there is a big shrine in Doylestown, PA. If you called them they might be able to tellyou about books and resources about Our Lady under this title.

Our Lady of Czestochowa is such a wonderful image to have chosen for your family to present for the Marian fair (which is a lovely idea, BTW). Unfortunately, I don't have a lot to offer in the way of book resources. I have not seen it but have heard that The Glories of Czestochowa and Jasna Gora is good. You may already have seen that one. We just returned to the library a book by Sr. Mary Jean Dorcy on the Shrines of Our Lady. It's an OOP book but if you can get a hold of a copy it has a section on OL Czestochowa which is very basic and good for children.

If you google Jasna Gora (Bright Mountain) which is the monastery where the image is located you get lots of informaiton that might not come up otherwise with just Czestochowa. She is also referred to as Our Lady of Jasna Gora. My parents visited the shrine last spring and brought me back a beautiful tryptych with her image.

Heya, KC! I happen to have 2 copies of this book in my garage! (and one in my personal library) Looking at the table of contents, I don't see any direct reference of OLC. If I see you Friday, though, you can look for yourself! If you want you can just borrow it or you can buy one. The list price from my store was $9.95. Your usual discount applies.

Mary and Joann,

Thank you for your help. I now have a place to start. I'll let you know how my research goes.
