Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

my mom just sent us a great book, maybe its been out a while. its the DK annotated guides to art. it has a large print on each page and many notes around the print pointing out unique techniques and innovations the artist used. there is also info about each artist in the margins. it is a great thing for the "artistically challenged" to use for picture study. it also has details from the painting blown up so you can see how the artist painted certain objects. we just did one painting today, but it was captivating enough for my 4yo to sit and look and ask for more.

Thanks for the book reccommendation, Monica! What's the exact title? I'd like to see if our library has it!

Blessings,
angel

the series is DK (Doring Kindersley) Annotated Guides. this one just says ART in big letters and in smaller letters (subtitle?) The worlds greatest paintings explored and explained. the author is Robert Cumming
My husband, who was an art major, still paints, and is very picky about art books, really liked it. he said it was great, so that must mean it is.    i noticed in the series they also have ones about architecture and great artists. let me know if you find those and if they are good. also, if you are sensitive about nudity, you may want to screen some of the paintings. they are masterpieces, but that doesnt mean they are G rated.

Monica -- thanks so much for mentioning this book, Art: the Greatest Paintings Explored and Explained -- it looks like a fabulous book. BTW, Robert Cumming has a companion to this one called, Great Artists: the Lives of 50 Painters Explored Through Their Work

... I love having these kind of books around for the kids to look at when they're "bored" --- always spurs some kind of learning....and DK seem to be the best at the high picture/high content books that encourage multiple rabbit trails.....
