The past few months dd and I have had the fun of seeing several ballets streamed live from Russia to a local theatre. These have been one day showings only (I guess since they were streamed live).

Anyway- we have seen three and each has been better than the last!
Yesterday we saw Prokofiev's version of Romeo and Juliet
(you can see a trailer here, though it loads a little slowly and there is a shampoo ad first).   It truly boggled my mind. I am starting to understand why people would be devoted to the ballet and pay gobs of money for tickets. I wish I could see this particular performance again because there was just so much going on, and all of it was amazing.

I see that my local library has several older productions from the Bolshoi ballet on dvd; Amazon also has them for sale.

The live season is over now, but the new season will be broadcast in theaters in the fall starting October 20. Since these tend to be one day showings, they are easy to miss. But if you live in an area where you might see one, I highly recommend them
