Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I read on someones blog that Mozart's 250 b-day is Friday. Anyone have any great ideas for celebrating it? My kids are always up for a party! We will listen to his music while having tea and cake of some sort. Any other ideas?

Lisa --

Here's a recipe for Kugelhupf (in one of the books we read this week, Mozart had it for his birthday). We'll also make homemade Mozartkugeln by making a batch of marzipan, rolling it into balls, and dipping in melted chocolate (you can also buy the marzipan in the baking aisle).

We're having Sachertort tonight, with "Happy Birthday, Mozart" written on it.

I'm thinking we'll pull pictures off the internet of Mozart and people with whom he associated, from the Empress Maria Therese, to her daughter, Marie Antoinette, to Bach (whom he met as a child, I believe) and Beethoven, to his father, Leopold Mozart, to the then Pope, the king and queen of England (didn't he stay in London a good while??)and so on. The little ones can color the pictures and everyone can label them. We'll post them in the art gallery (aka the kitchen!)

Better yet, after listening to the various cds about Mozart all this week, I can now ask the children who were some of Mozart's friends and see what they learned!

I found a really neat website on Mozart with samples of his music and a simple biography of his life written engagingly for children here.
