Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

by Rosa Giorgi.

I love this book! It is a basic liturgical year in art. For each day of the year, a piece of art is shown depicting one of the saints for that day. Artist, title, year, and current location of artwork are listed, and a blurb about that saint is also given. The saint chosen for each day is not always the most known saint of that day. I have really enjoyed broadening my horizons with this little gem. I ran across it in Barnes and Noble a couple of months back. Someone had left it on a table close to the registers and it caught my eye. I am so glad it did!

(The book is not "Roman Catholic," but does state that it follows the Roman Catholic liturgical calendar as closely as possible. So far I have not noticed any differences in feast days.)

Thanks for the review. I have in my wish list her other book, after I saw it in the Met catalog. Your description is EXACTLY what I want in a book of saints.

Oh, another book that has the artist and saint is Bulfinch's One Hundred Saints. Very nice...but not a year's worth!
