Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Does anyone have any favorite resources for Easter Carols? I think it's interesting that we have many Christmas carols that have endured for so...long... and yet growing up there never seemed to be that core of familiar favorites at Easter as there were at Christmas.

I started thinking about this when I chose the "Flower Carol" for the girls to recite and use for copywork and I noticed at the top of the page it said "translated from the Latin".

I thought - oohh a latin connection too - and then I found it here

Turns out this is a hymn which shares the tune to the familiar Christmas carol - Good King Wenceslas. So what do you think happened to Easter Carols? Or hmmm now I'm wondering what makes a song a carol?

Good questions...I did a google search on Easter carols and came up with a few hymns.

This is a PDF file with photos of the actual book. It takes a bit to download but I think it's worth it.

From everything2.com:
Often, only the oldest, most traditional songs are referred to as "carols," but where exactly the dividing line between Christmas carols and holiday music is has never been specified. (yerricde suggests that "the difference between Christmas carols and other holiday music is that Christmas carols were first published before 1923.")

I always seem to learn something new in my searches and ran across an article that mentioned "Holy Humor Sunday," an old Easter custom.

Anyway, I probably didn't answer any of your questions but I did find some interesting reading. *smile*
