I am looking into Henle for my 8th grader next year. She did LC I and about half of LC II. I am not sure how much of it actually stuck.
MA recommends Henle. Can anybody describe this program to me? What are its components? Can my dd use it independently?
Any information would be appreciated,

I am going to dive into Latin this year with my two older high school age children....I took 3 years spanish in high school....so besides the latin in the Mass this will be "greek" to me! 
We are starting out with Latin 1 and I did purchase the tapes set from Seton that go along with it. The course work is more intense and thorough. Hope this helps! Ora et labora!

I could have sworn I commented on this thread...if so (in a different section) please disregard.  Anyway, I have known several families who have used the Seton Henle program independently and with success, despite their not being "latinists" in any way shape or form! If you have the tapes, that should be a big help. As with anything, I think the key is consistency and persistance. Besides that, the Seton people are very willing to help if you send up a flare. That being said, for us we've used Seton---with a Latin tutor---as well as the Regina Coeli online courses. Both systems have worked very well.
Many college type profs seem to recommend Wheelock over Henle, but judging from comments I've heard from other Latinists, Henle---tho dry and very "un-sexy" in its presentation---is more thorough. The Wheelock is purportedly designed to get the (college) student quickly thru a pile of grammar in a semester, and as such, lacks in depth, according to some of my "sources". On top of that, Henle is definitely a Catholic program, using prayers and Church history for many of its exercises. I suspect many college profs avoid using it because of its ecclesiastical nature (which of course, makes it optimal for us ).
In sum, Henle ain't purty, but it's worth the effort!

We're also using Henle with our 7th grade ds. After going through LC I & part of LC II, I'm finding Henle to be very do-able & thorough.

We did decide to go with Henle. We are using it with the Memoria Press guide. The guide breaks the work in very doable chunks. I think she probably could do it on her own but we decided to go ahead and enroll her on the Memoria Press online class. They just started this week but so far so good.

Henle has worked very well for us. We haven't used it in a class. It goes much more gradually than Wheelock's and avoids presenting too much vocabulary and skimping the grammar.

I am coming in late on this discussion, but for future reference, MODG has a great syllabi for Henle Latin. I am on week 16 of the Latin 1A syllabus myself, trying to teach myself this before my now 6th grader needs me to teach him!
The MODG syllabus moves at a faster pace than Memoria Press, but is still very doable. It has quizzes, tests, and blank "chant charts" to fill in. It also shows how to make and organize flash cards for the student.
Henle is first and foremost a grammatical approach to language. This first rate thorough study of a highly structured, inflected language really trains the mind in logical thinking.
Wheelocks is primarily a Literature approach to Latin and is a valuable course to do, imho, after Henle.

What is the new MODG syllabus like for Henle?
It seemed the older syll was mostly a schedule.

Not sure how I missed the mailing from fall but I just got a MP newsletter that described their new online classes. One of them is Henle but it looks like they only start the Henle class in the fall semester (you need to have been enrolled last fall to do this semester). You can go to the website to ck it out.

Just wondering for those of you who have taken the Memoria Press Latin on-line courses, what did you think about it? We are considering it for LC 11 next year. I know that my daughter is doing wonderful in LC 1 right now but Mom it challenged. The DVD's have been wonderful. I was thinking that she may get more from an outside teacher. We are looking at Memoria Press and RC junior high Latin courses. would love any opinions on either.
