Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

OK, now I *know* there's a lot of collective Valley Forge Field Trip Experience out there. Anyone have great suggestions on must-do's there, special programs or accomodations? I've been there before, but it's been a while!

Thanks,
Kelly in FL

I'm going this weekend (part of the EWTN 25th Anniversary weekend). We have not finalized our arrangements, but are looking at a Hampton Inn over that way. Most hotels in the area seem to lack pools. Odd...

I'll let you know what's in the area (been MANY years for me, too).

Thanks, MacBeth. I was eyeballing that Hampton Inn online, too. Let me know your Best of/Worst of list! And have fun

Kelly,

I took my dc there in mid-December when there was snow on the ground and the temperatures were around freezing. The dc got to see the huts and the bunks inside them. It also gave them a new appreciation for a warm home.

You'll want to hit the visitor center first. There is a film you can watch before going on the auto tour. There are also some artifacts on display. You can pick up a free map at the center as well. I believe that you can purchase a tape or CD to listen to while going on the self-guided auto tour.

Weekends are very busy at Valley Forge. Lots of people go there to bike, hike, walk and picnic. There are usually interpretive programs available then too. The earlier in the day the better. The crowds are less and the heat and humidity haven't reached their peak yet.

Depending on which direction you are traveling from, there is the Brandywine Battlefied Park on Rt. 1 that you could stop off to see. If you are into art, you could also stop off to see the Brandywine River Museum.

HTH,

Mare

Well, we're back, but we did not stay too close to Valley Forge, nor did we spend too much time there. We ended up staying at the Spring Hill Suites in Plymouth Meeting.

We did take the afternoon 45 minute walking tour with a very knowledgeable guide, and she transferred us to a new recruit who showed us how to load and fire a colonial rifle. Paul was thrilled, and despite the 90 degree weather, a nice breeze greeted us on the ridge. We also drove through the park on the driving route. Of course, we visited the very well-stocked gift shop. I posted more details on the Mousey Trails blog. I'm sorry we did not spend more time at Valley Forge and vicinity, but our schedule did not permit. Maybe next time!

There is a discount card available at the
Valley Forge website.
