CNN puts out a 10 minute news segment daily for kids in middle and high school. You can preview segments to make sure there is nothing in them you don't want your kids viewing.

This is potentially a fun and interesting way to incorporate current events into your school day in a very easy way.

I was surprised that 14 yo ds really enjoyed these last school year. He wanted to watch them every day. I had to tell him that he could only watch them x many days during history time. If he wanted to watch more he had to do it in his free time. I also said he had to read the local Catholic newspaper before watch the CNN student news. This was the only way I could get him to read it without complaining.
