Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I've always been fascinated by history, particularly family history. I took a wonderful trip this summer with my parents and brother to my father's hometown (all six buildings!). I've had great fun this year, too, watching my daughter fall in love with history - at last! I hope you'll talk about your favorite historical period/event/place/person in your comments.

The giveaways for this poll are:

Science in Ancient Rome by Jacqueline Harris. This is a great book for elementary/middle school. It contains great photos of aqueducts, bridges, and famous Roman scientists.

Do People Grow on Family Trees? Genealogy for Kids and Other Beginners by Ira Wolfman. This classic intro to family history will help your children - and you - look into the past, interview relatives and chart your discoveries.

Stamp Kit

Remember, you have to vote in the poll and comment to be eligible for the giveaways!

Hard choice! I went with 20's just because it seemed the most peaceful and would most likely have indoor plumbing. I'm a wimp and wouldn't survive!

Renaissance Florence - Italy, Michelangelo, beauty, Catholicism. Not sure if they had gelato then? Probably did not have proper bathrooms - but the art and beauty would make up for this. We have just studied Giotto and Fra Angelico - and Michelangelo is next.....

The roaring 20's for sure. I have heard so many fun stories from my grandparents that this is where I would like to be.

Since living in Downton Abbey is not an option, I chose the exciting pre-revolutionary period in Boston!

Ancient Rome - I would love to hear Latin spoken by the locals.

Rome during WWII. I received some fascinating family history relating to what my family was doing during WWII, and I'd love to know more. Unfortunately I keep running into dead-ends and paywalls, so frustrating.

The last person who knew the details about what I'm looking for regarding WWII was my Grandmother, and she didn't speak about it at all and took it all to the grave with her.

I chose medieval France. I would like to work in a Cloister garden to the rhythm of the hours kept by the monks/nuns...
I imagine it was a golden age for the Faith.

Well, since living in Israel during the time of Christ isn't an option (presumably because EVERYONE would choose that!), I'll definitely go with the Cluniac monastery!

I chose the monastery since my daughter will most likely enter one at the end of the summer. Hard choice between that and Florence.

Fun poll, Nancy!

I am not good at memorizing dates or wars, but I love living history. What a difficult poll! All of those options sounded awesome (in a romantic way, of course. I don't want to be a starving peasant or anything... We're talking about a visit, not permanent stay... ) I chose Japan, though, because I am fascinated by samurai and the way they lived.

Renaissance Florence. I really want to see Italy, and that would be an amazing time to be there!
